Nothing drives me crazier than when I drop $100 at a fast food place (Did I mention I have 8 children?) but then they charge me $.25 more for an extra sauce.
One of the little things that makes me want to come back is when a restaurant rewards me for bringing my large family by not dinging me with a separate extra cost every time I need something small like a refill or extra ranch.
Your business team is no different.
They get up early each day, fight traffic, get to the office, get to work, face challenges, protect the culture, and get stuff done. From the time they leave each day until they get back home to their family may easily be 40% or more of their entire week that’s spent working to grow the business.
And they should be grateful to you, as their employer, to work in such an awesome company. But don’t nickel and dime your loyal team every time they need something that falls outside your policy
When a team member needs an extra hour after lunch to go see his daughter’s recital, give him two or give him the afternoon off and tell him to take them to dinner and remind him to pick up roses on his way.
Do it with enthusiasm!
You’ll never miss the few hours of work that didn’t get done and they will never forget how you treated them.
Your people invest a huge part of themselves into your business. When they need something small that breaks policy…break it and give it to them enthusiastically.
