It’s easy to miss the value of a person on your team venting to you. It’s emotional, often not timed well and one side of a story. But it is honest. It gets things out in the air. It means they trust you to hear them and do something about it.
Dont solve problems during venting. Help them get it all out. Ask “what else”? Empathize. Then the next day, sort out facts from feelings, isolate and consolidate themes, get the rest of the story when needed, and create a plan to knock out the top three pain points within days or weeks. This will take their confidence and trust (two different things btw) in you to a new place.
